Richard is a Principal with Mercer Investments in Hong Kong. He leads and supports the development of Mercer’s alternatives business in Asia.

Richard has over twenty-six years’ financial services experience focused on indirect and direct investments involving private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and private debt. He has also pursued public market strategies involving global emerging markets and China-A shares.

Prior to joining Mercer, Richard was Willis Towers Watson’s (WTW) Head of Research for Asia with responsibility for their private and public market research coverage in that region. He has worked extensively with a diverse range of institutional investors including sovereign wealth funds, government and corporate pensions, insurance firms and others.

Prior to WTW, Richard was a founding member and an Investment Director of Hong Kong based Squadron Capital Advisors (now part of Aberdeen Standard Investments). Squadron pursued indirect and direct private equity investments across the Asia Pacific via its comingled and separately managed account platforms. Richard started his investments career with Sydney-based AMP Capital, an asset manager pursuing direct investments globally including buyouts, growth capital and infrastructure assets.

Richard holds an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management, a Master of Commerce from Macquarie University and a Bachelor of Commerce from the Australian National University. Richard is a CPA Australia (CPA Aust.), and a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA).

Janet Li, CFA, MAoF, is a Partner and the Wealth Business Leader, Asia at Mercer. She oversees and is responsible for Mercer’s Wealth (Investment and Retirement) Business in Asia. In her role, she leads and drives strategic growth to the business as well as its operations and implementations.  

Janet has vast experience working with institutional clients (sovereigns, pension, insurance, corporate and wealth management). Her experience also spans across a wide range of retirement and investment services (asset liability review and strategy, portfolio construction, manager review, selection and monitoring, investment governance and transformation, discretionary management, member communication and education and related tools’ developments) and a diverse range of asset classes (public equities and fixed income, private equities, illiquid credit, real estate and infrastructure).

Before joining Mercer, Janet was the Director of Investments, Greater China at Willis Towers Watson where she was a core member of the Asia leadership team.

Janet is the Immediate Past Chairman of the Executive Committee and the Chairman of the Business Strategy Sub-committee of the Hong Kong Retirement Schemes Association (HKRSA). Janet is also a Management Committee Member of the Taiwan Pension Fund Association. In addition to these, she is currently serving as Member on the Human Capital Committee of the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC), Advisory Group Member (Working Adults) of the Investor and Financial Education Council (IFEC), Member of the FTSE Russell Asia Pacific Equity Advisory Committee, Mentor of the HKU Mentorship Programme, Manager and Treasurer of a School Board, and Member of the Hong Kong Academy of Finance (AoF). Janet is named as the Pensions Woman of the Year by the Asia Asset Management 2020 Best of the Best Awards.

Adeline leads Mercer’s Wealth business in Hong Kong.

Adeline’s move to Hong Kong follows 12 years of consulting experience with Watson Wyatt (now Willis Towers Watson) in the UK. Her most recent role was primarily focused on delivering whole-fund investment solutions to clients that have chosen to delegate a greater part of their investment processes. In 2008, she returned to the UK after a secondment to the Shanghai office in 2007.

She focuses on investment and actuarial consulting, specializing in the areas of long-term investment strategy, DB/DC pension design, asset-liability studies, dynamic de-risking, performance monitoring and portfolio construction.  

She serves a broad clientbase including corporations, wealth managers and public funds.

Adeline is a graduate of the Business School at the University of Warwick and is a Fellow of the UK Institute of Actuaries.

Professor Cherian was the Founding Director of the Centre for Asset Management Research & Investments (CAMRI) at NUS. Prior to NUS, Joe was Managing Director, Global Head and CIO of the Quantitative Strategies Group at Credit Suisse in New York where he had direct responsibility for over US$67 billion in client assets managed to a quantitative discipline. He joined the financial industry after an academic career in the US.  Joe currently serves on the Advisory Boards of Nipun Capital, a boutique hedge fund based in San Francisco, and Xen Capital, a boutique digital wealth and asset manager in Singapore, as well as the Mercer-CFA Institute Global Pensions Index and the Journal of Alternative Investments’ Editorial Board in the US. He has had appointments at the Singapore Central Provident Fund (CPF) Advisory Panel, the National Research Foundation’s Early Stage Venture Fund Evaluation Panel and was an Independent Non-Executive Director of Bursa Malaysia. Joe holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from MIT, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Finance from Cornell University.

Prior to joining GPF, Dr. Srikanya spent more than 10 years studying and working in Japan and the United Kingdom. Upon returning to home country, she spent most of her time working in a well-recognized Japanese advertising agency and finished her advertising career as Managing Director and Regional Strategy Director, the only Thai woman ever been in that position. She is very much well-known in Thai advertising and academic world as she published many books on consumer behaviors, consumer research, marketing and branding. Some of them are in English and some are being used as a must-read book for advertising students in many universities.

Upon joining GPF, Dr. Srikanya was assigned to play a key role in developing and communicating member investment choices, including life-path choice to GPF’s plan members. She is very active in applying mathematical simulation models for communication. Those include retirement adequacy model, contribution simulation model and investment choice simulation model. 

Dr. Srikanya also developed various kinds of investment games helping plan members to understand GPF’s operations including SAA, asset risk-return, business, investment cycle and etc. Currently she is working on using communication technology to personalize plan member communication.

Alistair Thompson is a Director of FSSA Investment Managers, part of First Sentier Investors.

Alistair has been managing Asia Pacific portfolios for more than 30 years.  He joined FSSA Investment Managers in 2003, initially based in the Edinburgh office.  He subsequently moved to Singapore later that year and has been based in Asia since then. 

Alistair is co-manager of the FSSA Asian Growth Fund. He is also responsible for managing a number of Asia Pacific Select portfolios on behalf of key client segregated accounts.  Alistair was lead manager of the FSSA Asian Growth Fund from 2003-2013.

Alistair holds a Diploma in Fund Management from the Securities Institute of London.

Paul Milon joined BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM) in January 2008 and has more than thirteen years of experience in the asset management industry. In his current position, he leads BNPP AM’s stewardship activities in Asia Pacific. This includes direct corporate engagement and proxy voting, working with policymakers on key issues relating to sustainable finance and investment, and representing BNPP AM in key investor ESG networks. Paul works closely with Asian investment team to better integrate environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) criteria in investment decisions, including through engagement with portfolio companies. He is the co-chair of the Asia Investor Group on Climate Change (AIGCC) Engagement & Policy working group.

Prior to that, Paul held various positions within BNP Paribas Asset Management in Hong Kong and Paris. As ESG Specialist, he successfully established our Sustainability Centre’s presence in Asia. Before that, he was a senior investment specialist within our Fundamental Active Equities teams. In this role, he oversaw the strong growth of BNPP AM’s Indian equities capability for international clients. Paul was also responsible for consultant relations in Asia, and launched and managed the award-winning BNPP AM Investment Academy in the region. Before relocating to Hong Kong, he worked as an ESG analyst in the Sustainability Research team in Paris.

Paul holds a Master’s in Management with a major in Entrepreneurship from the EDHEC Business School in France. He is a SASB FSA (Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting) Certificate holder.

Mr. Stefen Shin is currently the Principal Investment Officer at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, where he is a senior member of its investment department. Previous to this role, he has held positions at China Financial Futures Exchange in Shanghai, and leading global investment banks, including UBS, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, and JPM. He also has taught at several leading academic institutions, most recently at Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing. He began his career on Wall Street with JPMorgan, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia University, School of Engineering and Applied Science, in New York City.

Gareth Wong is Chief Executive Officer of Mitbana – a joint-venture fund management company of Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan’s leading trading house, and Surbana Jurong, one of Asia’s largest urban, industrial and infrastructure consulting firms owned by Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund Temasek Holdings.

Established in Mar 2019, Mitbana has a committed capital base of US$500 million and its mandate is to crowd-in institutional capital to develop Townships and Transit-Oriented Developments (TODs) in Asia, with a focus on ASEAN countries. In Sep 2020, Mitbana announced its first foray into Indonesia with local leading developer Sinar Mas Land to develop over 100 hectares of land into smart and sustainable TODs in Sinar Mas’ flagship development, BSD City in Tangerang, Greater Jakarta.

Gareth is a member of the Forum of Young Global Leaders with the World Economic Forum, as well as the World Cities Summit Young Leaders programme organised by the Centre for Liveable Cities, Singapore.

Gareth holds a BSc. in Economics (First Class Hons, Dean’s List) from University College London, as well as a MSc. in Political Science from Columbia University in the city of New York.

Paul Mackintosh is Sustainability Editor of Asia Asset Management. A writer, journalist, and career media professional, he has been engaged with financial markets and business elites in Asia Pacific and the West for over two decades. His special areas of interest include asset management, private investment, technology and venture capital, pensions and institutional investment, and above all, sustainability and ESG practice. Paul has several books in print, as well as voluminous articles. He is currently based in Geneva, where he covers international sustainability policy developments alongside his other concerns.

Andrew is a portfolio manager with Avanda Investment management in Singapore where he leads the hedge fund research efforts. Avanda Investment Management is a global asset management company founded by Ng Kok Song, Quah Wee Ghee and Sung Cheng Chih who, over a period of more than 25 years, played a key role in building up and running GIC, one of the foremost sovereign investors in the world.

Andrew has 11 years of experience in the asset management industry. Prior to joining Avanda, Andrew worked at Partners Capital in their London (2010-2015), Hong Kong (2015) and Singapore (2016-2017) offices. Where he was responsible for sourcing and due diligencing of fund investments across multiple asset classes including private debt, private equity, venture capital and hedge funds. Andrew was a key contributor to the management and day-to-day oversight of $5B of global hedge fund assets and $1B of multi-asset class Asian investments. In addition to his investment responsibilities, Andrew was also part of the outsourced CIO team which gave portfolio and investment advice to various endowments and non-profits.

Andrew holds a Masters in Science from Imperial College London and a Bachelors of Science from the London School of Economics.
