Alex has over 30 years of international investment experience and was the Chief Investment Officer, Asia Pacific for BNP PARIBAS Asset Management when he retired in September 2020. Post retirement, he continued to serve on the Board of Directors as well as the Investment Committees of BNP PARIBAS Asset Management Malaysia and BNP PARIBAS Asset Management Malaysia Najmah.
Alex joined the ABN AMRO Group in 1988 and established in 1991 the firm’s first asset management entity in Asia, which went on to become today’s BNP PARIBAS ASSET MANAGEMENT Asia Ltd. By 1995, under Alex’s leadership, Hong Kong had become the firm’s global asset management centre for Asian investments, with an expanding investment network to include Japan, India, Indonesia, Australia, and Singapore.
With ABN AMRO Asset Management, Alex was an early investor into China via the Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (QFII) programme as well as being an early entrant into the domestic China asset management industry via a local joint venture. Alex has also served as the Vice-Chairman of Haitong-Fortis Private Equity Fund Management Co. Ltd., including its investment committee, from 2010 to 2019.
Alex spent the latter years of his career in advancing BNP PARIBAS Asset Management’s sustainability agenda both internally as well as towards the industry. In 2019, Alex was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Asia Asset Management.
Alex graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). He served on the Board of Governors of the CFA Institute from 2003 to 2006 and on the Listing Committee of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange from 2006 to 2010. He is currently Chairperson of the Children’s Medical Foundation, a Hong Kong based charitable organization.
